What's Your Perfect Love Story?

Updated: Sep 17, 2019

So how many of you pray for your future husband or wife? I bet not a lot of you, right? It seems kinda odd to pray for someone who isn’t even in your life, or someone you don’t even know. But why not?

How many of you have a non-negotiable list? A list of all the things your person needs to check off when you start dating, and a list of things that is ok if they don't meet. I bet a lot of you don’t have that list either.

I was watching a suggested music video on YouTube a few days ago, and for some reason it made me smile so big. I normally don’t watch music videos, but this one was so good to me. The song is called, “Done By: Chris Janson”. The whole song is about a guy giving this girl everything she could ever dream of until it’s done. It’s about him chasing everything for them and praying to God about it, and trusting that God will let him know that his work is done.

So I know this is about a guy with a girl, but it can also be about a girl with a guy. I hope you don’t settle, I hope you get someone who fights for you, someone who won’t quit on you, someone who will make you so happy, someone who will be there for you to cry to. Find someone who won’t stop fighting and says “I won't stop till it’s done.”

If you can’t tell already, yes… I am that girl who loves love stories. I am the one who records all the Hallmark Christmas love story movies when they come on. I am the one who loves looking at wedding pictures and hearing peoples’ love stories. I’m the one who thinks of my “happily ever after”, and all of that… So call me what you want lol, but I love love stories.

Some things that are non-negotiables on my list are:

~ God is his number one

~ Has a Corinthians 13 love… (love is patient…)

~ Hard worker

~ Thinks of others before himself

~ Pushes himself and me closer to Christ

~ Never gives up

~ Joyful (likes to laugh and make me laugh)

~ Always there for me and cares

~ Honest and trustworthy

~ Encouraging

~ Loves kids

~ Protective (but not in a jealous way)

~ Respects their parents

Now I could probably list a few more things, but those are the things he for sure he needs to have. Yes, it may seem picky, or you may think that I am crazy for thinking I am going to find a guy nowadays with all of these things… but God works in mysterious ways, and don't settle because you are too impatient.

Find someone who makes you laugh so hard you cry and pee your pants, who will slow dance in a parking lot with you, who will fight for you no matter what, who will meet you somewhere just to let you cry to them, who will think you are the craziest person in the world but loves you to death and wouldn’t trade you for anything. Find someone who pours as much into you as you do into them. And find someone who will chase after you and not make you chase after them.

I know I may sound like a little kid with this whole love story thing… But you all have your love story. Whether it is as magical as the ones on TV, or if it is as special as just finding someone on social media and connecting, or finally realizing you and a good friend are more than just that. Whatever it is, you have a love story.

So find the guy or girl who makes you feel good, who encourages you to do better and support you. Find the person that accepts you for you and doesn't expect you to change a thing. And pray for them…

Pray for your future somebody. Pray that they will be the person you need and that God wants you to have in your life. Pray that they will push you in your faith and still grow in theirs. Pray that they will be a strong Christian person. Pray for your Corinthians 13 love… and don’t settle for less… because God is waiting for you to be patient and wait for the one. You just need to take a step back and be patient and wait on God’s timing.

So this week, I encourage you to make your non-negotiable list. I encourage you to not think of anyone in particular. Just think about what God wants for you and what you value in someone, and write them down. Every time you enter a new relationship, look at that list, if they check all the boxes, then I think you have found the one… and if not, then God is telling you to take a step back and wait on his timing.

I also encourage you to pray for them. I encourage you to pray for who God is leading you towards and pray for patience and all the things you value in them.

And now I pray for you... I pray that you are patient. I pray you find your Corinthians 13 love, and I pray you don’t settle for anything other than your perfect love story.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Songs that stuck out to me this week:

(Raise A Hallelujah By: Bethel Music)

(So Will I By: Hillsong Worship)

(You Waited By: Travis Greene) (A good song on patience)
