Following God's Plan

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

Let me just tell y’all… God works in mysterious ways. I would’ve never thought in a million years that I would’ve gone to a college Christian group with my ex-boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, and her significant other. But guess what… I did. And I’m so glad I did because God spoke to me a little bit while I was there.

The message was about encouragement. I thought it was a weird topic at first, but it was actually really good. Just think, how many people do you take the time to try to encourage. Probably not a lot. Now think about how many people you intentionally try to encourage in the church. That’s probably way less.

I know, it is hard sometimes to encourage people. Or to even think of what you can say to make their day… trust me I know. I suck at saying things like that to people. But just think how many people’s days you can make, or think about the people who just really needed to hear that to get them through.

Now let me ask you something else… How many people do you ask what you can pray about for them? I bet not many or any at all if that. I know I don’t. Or how many people do you actually pray for?

That last question I just asked I know many of you probably don’t do as well. I know it’s weird right? Like who do you pray for, what do you pray about, do you tell them or just do it? I know I get it. I just started to do this last one… and it feels so good to do. I pray for a few people lately, but I’m going to mention one in particular that I have been praying for recently, and one who keeps teaching me things I never thought he would.

So if you read my last post you remember that guy I talked about from my freshman year of high school… yes, he’s back, I’m talking about him again. I’m sorry lol. Anyways, I’ve been praying for him a lot lately...why? I have no flippin’ idea. His name has just been laid on my heart, so I said ok God and have been praying over him.

I pray that he grows closer to the Lord, I pray that he can learn to let go of his past, I pray his anxiety will calm down, I pray he will find peace, I pray he finds a good loving Christian girl, and the list goes on. (Hopefully, this gives you some ideas of what to pray for, for others)

Now I don’t have an answer as to why I now find myself praying for this guy, but I do know that God is moving in him in ways that I don’t know. I know that every time he crosses my mind I say a quick prayer now and God is taking that prayer to do good things in him.

Now I don’t only pray about this freshman year guy, but I occasionally send him my devos for the night when I feel he could get something out of it. And to be honest with you, I have no idea if he reads them, I have no idea if he cares that I send them or what. But I do know that this whole situation is very weird and strange to me. One I’m sitting here writing a post to people who I don’t even know who is reading it or seeing it. Two I’m talking about a guy who I just started talking to again and don’t even know if he likes talking to me. And three, I’m writing a post about a guy that I feel God “leading me to” in a way and have no idea why or the outcome of it.

So what is the point of this whole post? Well, I didn’t just make you read a long weird awkward post about this freshman guy I won’t even tell you the name of for no reason… What I’m trying to get at is that God is calling each and every one of you to something. What you do, no matter how small or big, it makes a difference. You may not know the difference you are making at the time, and you may not see it for a long time, but if God is calling you, you need to follow it.

God has called me to a lot of things lately, and some of them are beyond scary. Like this lol. I never would have thought I would be writing blog posts, or praying for a guy, or writing about a guy I’m praying about. And I’m not gonna lie, it’s kinda scary. But God has a purpose for each and every single one of you. You just need to listen to that voice inside your head. Yes, it may be awkward like me hanging out with my ex’s ex, or yes it may be scary, like me talking about this guy right now. But I bet you someone is going to get something out of what you do.

So don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to pray for people. Don’t be afraid to encourage people. Don’t be afraid to listen to what God is calling you to do… because trust me, it always leads to amazing things.

So I encourage you all to step out of your comfort zone and listen to God’s calling. I encourage you within the next week to find one person. Just one person. And for one week pray for that person. You don’t have to tell them you are praying for them. But just pray over them. And if you feel led, I encourage you to reach out to them and build a stronger relationship with them. Encourage one another and build each other up in Christ. Just like MercyMe once said in their song “Even If” I know you’re able and I know you can!

1 Thessalonians 5:7 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

Songs that stuck out to me this week:

(Even If By: MercyMe)

(Voice of Truth By: Casting Crowns)

(East to West By: Casting Crowns)

(Praise You in this Storm By: Casting Crowns)
